W.W. Little Geological Consulting, LLC was formed in 2014 with a focus on field-based professional training related to clastic sedimentology and stratigraphy. In subsequent years, we have partnered with companies and individuals in various industries and from several countries to expand both our training and consulting offerings. We continue to look for opportunities to expand and welcome new partnerships. Please contact us if you would be interested to join our team.
William W. Little
Owner/Principal Geologist/Instructor
Bill is a sedimentary geologist with 30+ years experience in sequence stratigraphy, interpretation of clastic depositional systems, and both bedrock and surficial materials field mapping. He holds a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Colorado – Boulder, served as the Director of the Surficial Materials Mapping Program at the Missouri Geological Survey, and for 17 years was the principal sedimentologist/stratigrapher and field camp director for the Department of Geology at Brigham Young University – Idaho.
David A. Little
Geologist/Instructor
David holds a master’s degree in geology from Brigham Young University (2016). His M.S. work involved a geochemical analysis of both modern and ancient eolian deposits in the state of Utah. He completed an internship with ConocoPhillips re-evaluating mature offshore oil and gas fields in the Permian Basin and was offered a full-time position; however, because of his love for fieldwork, he chose to pursue a career as an independent consultant and has been a contract geologist and instructor for W.W. Little Geological Consulting, LLC since its inception in 2014. He is an excellent field mapper with experience in the structurally complex terrain of the Sevier fold/thrust belt.
Daniel W. Little
Geologist/GIS Coordinator
Dan studied geology at Brigham Young University – Idaho and Idaho State University. He has strong mapping and other field skills, but is particularly adept at software applications and does the bulk of our GIS work. He is also quite accomplished at geological illustrating.
Partners & Collaborators
LGC works closely with other companies and agencies to provide a wide range of geological services. Partners come from all industries.
Course Instructors
LGC offers in-house professional courses pertaining to facies model development, sequence stratigraphy, and geological mapping in tectonically complex regions. Additionally we have partnered with individuals from Italy, Germany, Spain, Canada, and South Africa to offer courses on halokinetic stratigraphy and structure, sequence stratigraphy of foreland basins, and historical aspects of petroleum exploration and development.
Consultants
LGC specializes in geological field studies related to stratigraphic analyses and geological mapping, logging sedimentary core, and sedimentary petrography and petrology. We have partnered with many companies to offer additional services, including soil sampling surveys, drilling project management, exploration for precious metals, subsurface geophysical surveys, design and construction of onsite field laboratories, and environmental remediation.
Researchers
LGC in-house staff have focused on sedimentologic and stratigraphic studies related to continental and coastal depositional systems and sequence stratigraphy of active foreland basins. We are now in collaboration with researchers from Canada and Italy on similar, as well as other topics.
