Mark Bunnell
Senior Geologist
Mark is owner of Bunnell Geoconsulting, PLLC and spent nearly 40 years as a senior geologist at the Sufco, Skyline, and Dugout Canyon coal mines in the Wasatch Plateau and Book Cliffs, Utah, retiring as the Sufco mine’s chief geologist. His areas of expertise include surface and underground coal exploration, underground directional drilling, underground mapping and sampling, coal quality modeling and projection, ground control mapping and design, and coal resource estimation. He is experienced in the use of ACAD, Carlson, Minex, LaModel, and NIOSH ground control software. Mark is involved with LGC in a study to better define stratigraphy of the Star Point and Blackhawk Formations in the Wasatch Plateau, with an emphasis on mapping and correlating the Hiawatha coal seam.

Paolo Balocchi
Independent Researcher
Paolo is an independent researcher from Modena, Italy. His research interests are in structural geology, tectonics and seismotectonics of the northern Apennine Mountain Range. Paolo is involved with LGC in a study to better define Apennine range uplift history through structural, stratigraphic, and geomorphological analyses along the Secchia River. This research has already led to three published papers.
Italian National Research Council
Governmental Agency
The Italian National Research Council (Consiglio Nazioale delle Ricerche or CNR) is the primary Italian governmental agency responsible for scientific and technologic research of national importance. It is the largest public scientific agency in Italy. CNR and LGC have been engaged in research related to factors controlling landslides in the southern Alps. To date, this had led to one publication.
