LGC staff have been actively engaged for over 30 years in scholarly research related to basin analysis/sequence stratigraphy, modern and ancient clastic sedimentology, sedimentary petrology, and geomorphology, with a focus on terrestrial and coastal sedimentary systems in the Cretaceous Western Interior Basin of the United States. Current projects include correlation of terrestrial strata in tectonically active areas, application of sequence stratigraphy to thick fluvial successions, distinguishing the relative importance of eustasy and tectonics in the development of terrestrial sequences, base-level controls on fluvial geomorphology, and the response of foreland basin fluvial systems to the initiation and development of Sevier- and Laramide-style uplifts.
